Who should send the invitations? Should the other family be mentioned?

The family that hosts or pays for the wedding normally sends the invitations.

You might mention the other family, if desired, by saying, following the groom’s name, "son of Mr. and Mrs" This formula allows mention of the groom’s family while leaving no uncertainty about who is hosting the wedding. The reverse applies if the groom’s family is hosting.
